Musing on disappearing birdsong, Hunter portrays the potential loss of the forest’s most vocal chorister. Tīeke (South Island saddleback) fly only a short distance, yet here, one bird soars magnificently on the edge of Anchor Island overlooking The Dusky Sounds. With markings extended like a cloak of protection mirroring another with its saddle and wattle dissolving into the clouds.
